Beaches

Connemara and particularly the coastal areas of Ballyconneely and Roundstone boast some of the best beaches in Ireland. The majestic crescent shape of Dogs Bay and Gurteen Bay are probably the most renowned while the rugged nature of Doonlaughin in the Aillebrack area of Ballyconneely offers surfers and other thrill seekers the opportunity to battle nature in its own back yard. Fort sheer beauty nothing compares to Mannin Peninsula on the outskirts of Ballyconneely village. A good walk of approximately 5 hours can get you to the end of the peninsula and back. However it's highly recommended to take a picnic and swimming attire to make the most of the occasion. Its rugged, pristine, secluded white sands are somewhat protected by the bay structure and soft currents. Visitors often declare Mannin Peninsula as the best beach area in the world.
